Sustainability & Regionality

Sustainability & Regionality

We focus on local products, eco-friendly concepts, and mindful resource management – for a connection to nature you can truly feel.

Architecture & Design

Stylish and thoughtful: Modern architecture blends with charming design and cozy comfort – creating an atmosphere to feel at home.

Tradition & Modernity

When it comes to style and taste, we’ve always followed our own unique path here in the Bregenzerwald. Traditional guest lounges and contemporary rooms are no contradiction for us – quite the opposite. It’s the blend that makes the difference and adds to the warm atmosphere of our family-run hotel.

Culture & Craftsmanship

In the Bregenzerwald, you’ll encounter regional craftsmanship, stunning architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene that invites you to explore.

The Simmas have been innkeepers since 1665.

In old guestbooks, you’ll find notes from travelers who, coming from Lake Constance, stopped to rest in the charming village of Au on their way to the Arlberg. Even back then, the Adler and Rössle inns were run by two Simma brothers – a family connection that has been preserved for centuries. Over time, the inns have been continuously renovated and modernized to meet the ever-changing needs of our guests.

Historic portrait of Katharina and Richard Simma, hosts of Hotel Adler since 1930.

Grandparents Katharina and Richard took over the ‘Adler’ in 1930.

Our grandparents, Katharina and Richard, took over the Adler in 1930 and built a large family with 12 children. While Richard managed the farm, Katharina became an exceptional cook and host. She passed her hospitality genes on to her children – five of whom went on to become successful innkeepers. Through hard work and courage, the Adler grew: in 1930, the guest lounges were expanded, and in 1957, the barn was rebuilt. Summers brought visitors seeking fresh mountain air, and later, the first winter sports enthusiasts found their way to Au.

Maria and Anton Simma, host couple of Hotel Adler Au since the 1970s.

Parents Maria and Tone

Our dad, Anton, completed his apprenticeship in Switzerland on a vineyard, got his driver’s license there, and proudly returned to Au in a VW bus. In 1971, he took over the Adler and learned to cook alongside his mother. A few years later, he won the heart of our mom, Maria, who was working as a waitress at the Adler. Together, they expanded the restaurant and kitchen in 1980, followed by the legendary cellar bar 'Adlerhorst.' In 1990, they opened the 'new Rössle,' a modern 4-star hotel.

Then came the next generation.

Between 1978 and 1985, Anton and Maria started their family with Barbara, Anton, Annemarie, Peter, and Michaela. Experiences were gathered through school, studies, and work at renowned establishments both at home and abroad. Gradually, everyone returned with fresh ideas, found their roles in the business, and worked together as a team. In 2011, the siblings, filled with gratitude, took over the life’s work of their parents.

Let’s do this together!

In 2015, the Rössle underwent a complete transformation in just 4 months: 31 stylish rooms were created, blending Scandinavian design with Bregenzerwald craftsmanship. In 2019, the Adler was expanded to include an infinity pool, 700 m² of wellness space, and highlights like an indoor treehouse for children, turning it into a wellness and family hotel. With over 45 employees, we are proud to carry on the life’s work of our parents. In 2025, the next step follows: even more space for families, couples, and shared experiences.

A place to breathe deeply.

The Bregenzerwald offers you rest and relaxation, surrounded by a backdrop that combines mountains, exceptional cuisine, and rich traditions. Whether it’s serene alpine landscapes, fragrant meadows, or charming little villages – the region invites you to leave everyday life behind. With captivating architecture, authentic craftsmanship, and an unparalleled cheese culture, every visit becomes a feast for the senses.
